Data Domain systems deliver scalable, high-speed protection, storage for backup, archive and disaster recovery. Data Domain systems can easily integrate with existing infrastructures and with leading enterprise applications such as Oracle RMAN or write directly over CIFS or NFS to support a variety of workloads. A single Data Domain system can be used for backup and recovery of the entire enterprise, including Oracle, SAP, Microsoft and VMware, IBM and mainframe environments, as well as protect archive data, including file, email, enterprise content management, database and Virtual Machine archiving. Data Domain systems integrate seamlessly with industry-leading archiving applications (for example, EMC SourceOnce and Symantec Enterprise Vault). In addition, with the addition of Data Domain Retention Lock software, Data Domain can meet internal governance policies or compliance regulations for archiving data, including SEC 17a-4(f).

As data lands on the Data Domain system, it can immediately begin replicating to a disaster recovery site. Data Domain replicates only unique compressed data across the network (up to 52TB/hour over a 10GB network connection with Data Domain Replicator software), requiring a fraction of the time, bandwidth and cost. This can reduce WAN bandwidth requirements up to 99%, making network-based replication fast, reliable and cost-effective. For the highest level of security, Data Domain can be encrypted by using standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. Data Domain systems provide flexible replication topologies, including full system mirroring, bi-directional, many to one, one to many, and cascaded.
