Quantum Scalar i500 LTO Tape libraries provide up to 2.5 Petabytes of backup storage when configured with LTO-6 tape drives and achieving 2.5:1 compression, and address the exponentially increasing backup requirements of Enterprise-level data centers and Cloud storage providers.
Scalar i500 libraries easily connect to a host server via SAS or LVD SCSI, or to a Fibre-Channel backbone where they can be partitioned and shared by multiple servers, and support every leading backup application available including Symantec NetBackup, EMC Networker, CommVault Simpana, and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, to name a few.
The Scalar i500 LTO library provides advanced monitoring and proactive diagnostics capabilities, policy-based e-mail alerts to system administrators and Quantum Global Services, and advanced reporting that includes Media Integrity Analysis reports, Media Usage reports, Drive Utilization reports, Security reports, and media removal notifications.
Using the i500 for Data Archiving
Linear Tape File System (LTFS) presents a standard file system view of data stored on an LTO tape cartridge, and provides direct read/write access to files and file metadata independently of storage management applications, similarly to Optical discs and removable flash drives.
Quantum Scalar i500 libraries fully support the LTFS specification, and provide up to 2.5 Petabytes of archival storage via drive-letter access or UNC path when used in conjunction with the Quantum LTFS Appliance, or a third-party LTFS software application such as QStar Archive Storage Manager and PoINT Jukebox Manager.
Managing Data Growth with Scalar i500
Addressing data growth and scalability with Quantum Scalar i500 LTO libraries is achieved through the addition of 9U expansion modules, each with capacities of 92 tapes (575TB) and up to 4 LTO tape drives per module, ultimately scaling the entire i500 library to 409 tapes (2.5PB) with 18 LTO drives in a single rack cabinet.
